Description
|
The installation consists of:500 kW Enercon E40 wind turbine, 25 kW alkaline electrolyser delivering H2 at 20 bar and 99.98% purity, 40Nm3 H2 storage in metal hydride tanks, single stage 15-220 bar compressor, filling station, central control and data logging unit,peripherals (air compressor, cooling unit, water heater, etc).
The electrolyser is build with suitable power electronics and materials in the cell stack to allow for 20-120% of nominal power changes in 1 sec. interval.
Hydrogen is compressed from 15 to 220 bar in a 1-stage membrane compressor and stored in a cylinder stack (100 Nm3 capacity).

Hydrogen supply
|
electrolysis - electricity by wind power; Hydrogen is produced by a 25 kW electrolysis unit operating at a pressure of up to 20 bar that has been connected to a 500 kW Enercon E40 wind turbine. Hydrogen is purified to 99.98% purity.

Hydrogen storage
|
Hydrogen is stored in metal hydride tanks with a capacity of 40 Nm3. A cooling unit and a water heater are also installed for cooling/heating the tanks during discharging/ charging respectively. The storage / delivery pressure is 15 bar.

Comments
|
This installation allows the testing of various strategies for utilising excess energy from a wind park in the form of hydrogen production. Such systems could well be used in the numerous non-grid connected Greek islands.
